Quantum Leap is an album I will tell you from the beginning, and I was looking forward to it. Ever since I read the interview Gus gave to DEPART, I have heard that he said that an instrumental album is in his plans. Also, from the beginning, I will try to be objective. You understand!

Gus G.’s new “child” is simply thunderous! From the beginning of “Into the Unknown” to the last notes of “Force Majeure“, he doesn’t leave you not to engage but not to think about anything else for a little more than 45 minutes. There’s something about it that seems simple but is very rare, especially when it comes to instrumental albums. Coherence.
It makes “bang on” that the order of the tracks is anything but random. It takes you by the hand, “sits you down”, and tells you a story. Ιt is a story that everyone makes up on their own, that magic that happens with instrumental, especially guitar-oriented, records.
Listening to 2020’s “Firewind”, I thought Gus G. had hit the ceiling playfully, but “Quantum Leap” proves me wrong.
The production, of course, is very good. The compositions are of the highest standard, and his influences are there as much as possible. Along with his own path so far, he manages to get his narrative across to us beautifully, which makes you feel almost familiar. At the same time, the technique in the playing is obviously unreal and not open to criticism.
Especially for this last one, I would like to make a small parenthesis and say that when I listened to the (also excellent) FIREWIND of 2020, I thought that now “playfully”, he has reached a ceiling. So I inform you that it hasn’t. He has managed – God knows how – to be better, to my ears at least, than last year’s self!
Highlights of the album for me are “Chronesthesia” with his FANTASTIC solo, the title track “Quantum Leap“, “Judgement Day“, and, of course, the great closing track “Force Majeure“, together with Vinnie Moore.
